Uses of Tea Tree Oil
Today, the demand for Tea Tree Oil is high, therefore major producers are establishing 'tree farms' from the seedlings of select Melaleuca alternifolia trees.
The original Melaleuca alternifolia, thrived in the remote swampy, low lying lands of New South Wales in Australia. Harvesting the leaves is labour intenstive. The leaves can be cut twice a year as the trees are hearty and the natural eco-system is not disturbed. The method of harvesting prevents any damage to the tree. I saw Melaleuca alternifolia growing in the swampy area along the highways in the Florida Keys. They were growing rapidly and the only way to remove them was to cut them down as burning the scrub would cause a very thick smoke and be very uncomfortable for some. Used for Yeast Infections In the late 1950's and early 1960's, Dr. Eduardo F. Pena, M.D., investigated Melaleuca alternifolia for its effectiveness in eradicating both trichomonal vaginitis and candida albicans.
