Care for Your Stomach

Stomach problems seem to be a major complaint of many, many people as they age in today's society.

Even the younger generation, with their poor diets and the stress of today’s living are beginning to suffer with acid, belching, aches and pains.

The Esophagus

The esophagus is a strong muscular tube, about 9.8 inches in length. When in its relaxed state, the mucosa is deeply folded. This allows it to stretch when food is delivered.

When you eat, food goes from your mouth down your esophagus, into your stomach.

Sodium

Lack of sodium results in palpitation, gas, liver trouble, slow digestion, lack of the gastric juice and lack of the saliva.

Sodium is essential to our well being.

Some sodium rich foods are celery, strawberries and raspberries.

As I discovered in Dr. Bernard Jensen’s book, The Chemistry of Man, another sign of our need for sodium, is when your eyesight suffers and becomes weaker and weaker, requiring newer and newer eye glasses.

Hint: It would be more economical to keep eating more celery!

When you suffer from congestion in the bowel or when you are constipated you should remember that foods rich in magnesium, sodium, chlorine and potash with help.

Hint - Drink salty water at such a time, it will help too.

Magnesium

The digestive function suffers when the mineral magnesium is exhausted.

When the teeth are developing, certain salts are extracted from the blood and broken down, if magnesium is not supplied.

A few fruits that are high in Magnesium are

  • figs
  • grapefruit
  • cherries
  • apples

Hydrochloric Acid

A man who suffers from indigestion usually always lacks hydrochloric acid, thus producing indigestion.

Most people think the very opposite, that there is too much hydrochloric acid and that is what is causing the burning. They take a Tums!

Taking a digestive enzyme would always help with indigestion and abdominal bloating.

HCL also keeps us alive by maintaining proper alkaline/acid balance and then becomes alkaline after its vital job in the digestive process is done.

Indigestion is caused by a lack of hydrochloric acid.

HCL usually starts a disturbing decline after the age of 40.

Nature's Sunshine has many varieties of digestive enzymes. I will name a few of them later on.

Upper Stomach

When there is a burning pain here, this is an indication that there is a lack of sodium. Sodium, chlorine, magnesium and potash are the food chemicals that are needed for normal functions. When these elements are lacking you suffer from constipation and autointoxication, gastritis and many other ailments.

Indigestion

Indigestion is poor assimilation or difficulty in processing the food correctly in order to get the proper value from it. If this is affecting you in someway, it is important to tone up the body and change your diet.

Apple cider vinegar sweetened with honey may be taken before meals to aid digestion.

Foods containing sugar, starch or fat are converted into gas when there is an acidic condition.

Gas in the bowel produces sleeplessness nights. So remember, the next time you are unable to sleep at night, notice whether it is really your mind going round and round, or is the bowel full of gas?

Important – Never give anyone cold food who is weak and never give such a person or patient heavy meals. Always bear in mind, the weaker the stomach, the warmer the food should be. Body heat is needed to digest cold vegetarian proteins.

The Sea of Food and Fluid

In TCM the Stomach is responsible for "receiving" and "ripening" ingested food and fluids. Hence it being called The Sea of Food and Fluid.

Food begins its decomposition in the Stomach. The "pure" part is then sent to the Spleen, which transforms it into the raw material for Qi and Blood.

These two organs are closely related.

The "turbid" part is then sent to the Small Intestine for further digestion.

Diet

A heavy carbohydrate diet, will be much too hard for some bodies to handle.

A Candida Diet would be an excellent way to get your digestive system back in a healthier way.

Gluten is the master acid-maker in the body.

Salt and baking soda similarly cause problems, being irritants to the stomach wall.

Salt and spicy diet are overstimulating and lead to excessive secretion of hydrochloric acid.

When it comes to eating right and taking care of your body, there is no
