Probiotics

Definition:

Probiotics are live microorganisms thought to be healthy for the host organism.

According to the currently adopted definition by FAO/WHO, probiotics are: "Live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host". Friendly bacteria are commonly consumed as part of fermented foods with specially added active live cultures; such as in yogurt, soy yogurt, or as dietary supplements. (Wikipedia)

Acidophilus, bifidophilus and other species of Lactobacillis are friendly bacteria necessary for colon health.

They aid in digestion and assimilation of some nutrients and may help produce vitamin B12 for the body. They can protect against diarrhea when travelling or act as a mild laxative in constipation. This friendly bacteria is depleted and destroyed by antibiotics. This is the reason, probiotics should be taken after a round of antibiotics.

Diaper Rash

Acidophilus, bifidophilus and other species of Lactobacillis may be sprinkled in the diaper for thrush-related diaper rash.

Nature’s Sunshine’s Probiotic 11 has a powerful combination of Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium infantis, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus salivarius, Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus caseii, frutooligsaccharides.

Nature’s Sunshine also has a Chewable Bifidophilus for children.

A friend of mine, sometimes give a chewable bifidophilus to her dogs for a treat.

These products work best when taken first thing in the morning about one hour before breakfast.

You could also empty 3-5 capsules into a cup of room temperature water, dissolve and inject rectally using a bulb syringe.

You could also insert a capsule into the vagina using an applicator similar to a tampon applicator.

Traveling Suggestions

Taking a friendly bacteria are especially helpful when traveling as they help to prevent traveler’s diarrhea. I suggest to double or triple the normal amount consumed and take them with meals. Also take 1 capsule with any snacks.

Practical Use of Probiotics

When I suggest these quantities, I am referring to Nature's Sunshine's product, called Probiotic 11.

To cleanse taking 4 - 10 per day.
