Natural Body Detox

A natural body detox does not necessarily mean going on a fast or a juice cleanse. There are other ways. Now that you know that would you consider cleansing?

Our bodies are already equipped with  the proper organs to cleanse all the time. We eliminate and neutralize toxins through our colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph, and skin every day. The problem for most of us is we continue to eat poorly and our bodies become tired of working so hard and a toxic build up starts.  Diseases or syndromes such as allergies, arthritis, migraines, bowel disorders and Candida can eventually start.

The Liver:

One of the busiest organs we have that helps the body to do a natural body detox is the liver. It is our largest internal organ weighing almost three pounds. It works very hard, performing over 500 chemical functions, to keep us living and healthy. It is the first organ to receive nutrients or any toxic substances from the intestine. It also receives carcinogens or any drugs that have been ingested. Today's modern and poor diet abuses our liver tremendously. We really need to take better care of it.

The Kidneys

The kidneys filter waste.  Drinking plenty of clean, pure water aids the kidneys. Watermelon juice is excellent for helping the kidneys do their elimination job.

The Lungs

Some of the toxic waste material generated in the body is passed out of the system as a gas through the lungs. Carbon dioxide is exchanged for oxygen during the process of breathing. Exercise comes really helps the lungs work more efficiently.

The Lymphatic System

The lymph picks up intracellular waste and dumps it into the bloodstream, where it is processed by the liver and filtered by the kidneys. White blood cells in the lymph destroy harmful bacteria as part of their function in the body’s immune system. It is important to exercise in order to assist the lymph to do it’s job.

The Skin

The skin is the largest elimination organ of the body. By taking care of the skin, by skin brushing, which is a way of removing dead skin cells and the waste material excreted through perspiring, this will help relieve the other elimination organs.

It's not only our poor diet that causes stress on our bodies, but emotional stress will eventually overwhelm the body and eventually a natural body detox is necessary as well.

A Healthy Diet

Following a healthy diet daily is really not difficult.  Eating fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds is so easy.  You can see the Candida Diet for a more complete list of healthy foods. 

Lemons supports the liver during it's daily cleansing process.  Lemon is part of the Master Cleanse and can be used very simply in a morning drink of warm water as your start to the day. 

Fruits are easy to digest and are high in nutrients, fiber, vitamins and antioxidants.

Green vegetables like kale, spinach, chard, and other green leafy vegetables will add fiber and healthy greens for the digestive tract.  Greens contain chlorophyl which help the body environment to 'clean up' and the liver just loves chlorophyl.  Drinking liquid chlorophyl is one of my daily habits to help my body doing it's natural body detox.

Broccoli Sprouts and other sprouts are easy on the digestive system.  Sprouts can help the body detoxify more effectively than the actual vegetable.

Raw vegetables can be juiced or eaten in a salad or a snack.  Onions, carrots, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, beets are especially good for helping the liver cleanse. 

Garlic will help any natural body detox diet by stimulating the liver.  The liver helps filter our toxins.

Green Tea is full of antioxidants.  Yerba Mate tea aids your digestion. It also helps keep your colon working it's best and reduces stomach bacteria.

Snacking on nuts and seeds will provide extra protein.  Try some that you haven't had before.  Flax seeds can be sprinkled on a salad or included in soup recipes.  Pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts, hemp seeds are a few others that are very tasty.

Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil and Flax seed Oil are beneficial while detoxing.  Use these on your salads. Oils will help the intestinal system too.


Here are some special tips on potent natural body detox foods for you to choose from.  Just incorporate these foods into your daily diet.

Cucumbers are especially good as they are 95% water and help the body to become more alkaline.

Grapefruit are very high in fiber which aids in your digestive system.

Steel Cut Oat Porridge has soluble and insoluble fibers.  Helps you feel 'full' longer.

Use lentils in soups or stews as they help lower cholesterol and balance blood sugar.

Cauliflower and Broccoli help the body to eliminate toxins and reduces inflammation.

Master Cleanse Diet or the Master Cleanser Diet

The Master Cleanse is a 10 day Fast.  It is used to detox and weight loss. During this 10 day period, the only nourishment that you take is a special lemonade-ish drink.  It consists of Organic Lemon Juice, Maple Syrup, Cayenne Pepper and Pure Filtered Water.  You take this drink 6 to 12 glasses per day. 

Taking a herbal laxative at this time as well.  You will have several bowel movements every day. 

Transitioning off this diet to solid food should be done over a few days, starting with raw food salads or soups.

This cleanse takes discipline but you feel totally energized by the time you are finished.

Skin Brush and Skin Brushing

Another method to assist the body to do it's natural detox is skin brushing.

Our skin is the largest absorption and elimination organ that we have.  The skin gets clogged with dry, dead cells and toxins from day to day living.  It is estimated that over one pound of waste per day is eliminated and accumulated through the skin. 

Regular dry skin brushing improves circulation and helps lymphantic drainage.  You would also notice a nice  healthy glow to your skin.

Here are some tips for Dry Skin Brushing.

A soft and natural bristle brush is required.  Most health food stores carry this type of brush.  The key word here is 'natural' not synthetic.  They are also very affordable.

If you use this brush to harshly at first, your skin can become quite sore.  Start gently and increase as your skin gets used to it.

Your skin will slightly flush but should not become red or irritated.  Too much pressure is being used if this is happening.

The next interesting word is 'dry'.  You actually use this brush dry and on dry skin to remove exfoliated skin.  You then shower off.

Start brushing from your hands, arms and in the direction of up towards your heart.
Then your feet and legs and in the direction of up towards your heart.
Pass the brush over your entire body always in the direction towards your heart.  This brush has a long handle so that makes it easier to do your back.

A clockwise brushing movement is good for your stomach area.  Clockwise means 'up' on the right hand side of your body 'across' around the belly button area and 'down' on the left hand side.

Once you get used to this process, it only a minute or two to complete the entire brushing.  A very short time in your busy day to help you do more of your daily natural body detox.

You will always have a nice healthy glow if do this brushing on a regular basis.

Clean the brush under hot water thoroughly after every brushing session.  Drying it in the natural sunshine is good, if you have that option available to you.

Colonic Irrigation

A colonic irrigation cleansing treatment is a process of removing accumulated fecal matter from the colon.  It rinses the colon with warm water removing impurities, mucus and sludge very gently.  If the bowel has become sluggish over time the entire body absorbs toxins.

A colonic allows your to absorb vital nutrients and leaves you with a feeling of energy and much healthier.  It will help a sluggish colon have more regular bowel movements.

Colonics, as administered today, depend upon the expertise of the colonic technician. Colonic therapy is potentially hazardous as water is applied under pressure.  Some of the individuals could have serious bowel problems which pressurized water could be quite damaging to.

Knowledgeable practitioners do offer a useful service but should also offer sound dietary counseling.  A healthy diet would help a natural body detox and would overcome the need for colon therapy. 

A natural body detox, daily exercise and a nutritious diet will achieve lasting results too.
