Menopause Symptoms.
All women experience menopause. Not all women experience menopause symptoms, but most will. Menopause is often referred to as Change of Life. What do you think? How many ways has it changed your life?
Menopause is a process, not a single event. It can take many years. Sometimes you might skip a cycle, then have regular menses for the next year. Sometimes you bleed in excess. That can frighten you. Then the next cycle is normal. The average age at which these irregular cycles occur, varies generally from 40 to 50 years old. The ovaries gradually become inactive and stop producing estrogen. A healthy woman is unaware of this happening, in the same way that she was unaware of these changes when she started menstruating at puberty. So, this tells me that it is not the actual glandular changes taking place that cause the physical complaints, or the emotional ones either. Don’t get annoyed with me. I believe you are feeling these things, but there are other reasons too.
The Change of Life
Why do some women sail through menopause without any symptoms at all, while others have so many menopause systems and distressing feelings? After all, menopause is a natural process that a woman's body goes through. You shouldn't have to experience menopause symptoms that make you feel unwell, uncomfortable and emotionally drained. A healthy, balanced woman...one who eats well, gets some exercise, and knows how to keep stress at reasonable levels, usually does not experience excess menopause symptoms. It's important to know how to read the menopause symptoms taking place in your body, then you will know how to treat those symptoms naturally. Let's look at two of the most common menopause symptoms.
Hot Flashes
Occur usually around the face and neck. The skin becomes bright red and feels very hot. This is not only embarrassing but uncomfortable. Hot flashes often occur during the night, causing you to throw off the covers frequently. This can make sleep difficult. You can wind up feeling very tired, because you are not getting enough restful sleep. Your energy level becomes very low, you feel bone-tired and exhausted. Extreme hot flashes, sometimes called 'earthquake' or 'volcano' flashes are quite common among women experiencing menopause as a result of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation. If you choose to use drugs for hot flashes, HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) it does alleviate hot flashes for some women. By the way, a hysterectomy does not cure hot flashes. Your uterus is not responsible for your hot flashes! Don't blame your uterus.
Weight Gain
Uh oh...what's that? Are you noticing a few extra pounds around your belly these days? Join the club! One of the most common menopause symptoms is weight gain, and with that, a general change in the overall shape of your body. About 90% of menopausal women gain some weight between the ages of 35 and 55. Research now shows that weight gain as a menopause symptom is caused by hormone shifts, not excess eating. Shifting amounts of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone (yes, women do have some), and androgen levels will make losing weight difficult. These hormones have a direct impact on your appetite, how your metabolism functions, and how your body stores fat. We live in stressful times. Excess stress during menopause also contributes to weight gain. Your body produces stress hormones which can prevent weight loss, by signaling your body to go into a 'storage mode'. This is referred to as the "famine effect" - your body, thinking it won't get food again for a long time, stores every calorie it takes in causing weight gain. Gaining weight and then being unable to shed those unwanted pounds, can really have an emotional impact on how women a woman feels about herself. Every woman wants to feel pretty ! Add this to being tired, overworked and underpaid and stress levels climb. Insulin is another hormone produced by your pancreas. Processed and refined foods can make your body resistant to insulin. Most women like to follow a low-fat, high carbohydrate diet. This is a mistake if too many refined carbohydrates and sugar laden foods are eaten. A condition called Insulin Resistance or Hyperinsulinemia commonly occurs during the menopausal years. We live in stressful times. Excess stress during menopause can contribute to weight gain. Stress hormones can prevent weight loss as they signal your body to go into 'storage mode'. Your body, while trying to cope with stress, thinks it won't get any food again for a long time, and then begins to store every calorie it takes in. Before you know it, fat will begin to accumulate in the wrong areas.
