Healthy Smoothies

Healthy smoothies, juices and blender shakes are so quick and easy to make and enjoy!  Our busy lives tend to limit our healthy eating.

Here are some important tips for you to keep your smoothies healthy and nutritious.

Protein is most important.  I usually use Synerprotein from Nature's Sunshine in my drinks.

Depending upon whether I use my blender or my Nutribullet, I use a protein powder in my blender and I frequently use almonds when I use my Nutribullet. It is important to have a protein in order to keep your blood sugar balanced.  This will also keep you feeling 'full' longer.

There are different flavor proteins powders, but I always choose a plain one.  If I want it chocolate flavored, I can add a natural cocoa powder.
If you are using Yogurt in your smoothie, it is always best to use either your home made yogurt or a natural one that is available in your local health food store.  There are so many yogurts available nowadays, it is important to read the labels.  You want to avoid anything with sugar or any chemicals which have been added.

When I choose a liquid to add to my healthy smoothies, I always choose purified water.  Occasionally coconut water or soy milk but usually water.  It's less calories that way.  More economical too!

I used to make a blender shake years ago using warm Green Tea, Fresh Parsley and Avocado.  In those days I used a blender so it came out a bit 'bumpy', but now I would use my Nutribullet.
Adding Flax Hull Lignans or Ground Flax Seed, Raw Coconut Oil, Nutritional Yeast, Avocado, Dry Oatmeal, Greenzone ,Bee Pollen or Goji Berries are great to add more nutrition to any healthy smoothie.

In your Nutribullet you can use leaf vegetables like Fresh Spinach, Mixed Salad Greens, Arugula, Lettuce, Celery, Cucumber.

There are so many fruits to choose from.  Shall I list a few of them?

The more colorful the fruit that you put in your smoothie gives you lots of health benefits from polyphenols and helps you reduce oxidative stress.

Here is really tasty way to start the day...using coconut oil adds more nutrition and a very interesting taste.

Here are some healthy breakfast ideas for those of you who rush out the door without breakfast. Having a blender shake either as breakfast, afternoon snack or dessert adds more nutrition to our daily diet. Kids will even stop and enjoy this shake for breakfast. I find they have a little difficulty with the color GREEN but with a little coaxing by adding a sweet banana or berries they will get over it.

Juicing or Blender Shakes

The question is to do 'juicing' or blender shakes or smoothies. All these methods offer incredible health benefits in just moments.

Fresh juices go directly into your bloodstream and are a quick and easy way for the body to absorb nutrients from vegetables.  You can add a variety of vegetables to your diet and your child's diet.  By juicing you can easily consume the recommended daily amount of vegetables with very little effort.  Also having vegetable juices helps your body stay more alkaline.  Another health benefit, is these lovely juices fill you up, and you find yourself not eating or craving 'junk' food.  Perhaps lose a few pounds in the process!

You will experience better digestion, improved energy levels, mental clarity and an overall sense of well being.
