Have you ever thought of trying a Food Combining Diet to improve your digestion, your health or maybe weight loss?

The Principles of a Food Combining are excellent for you to experience better digestion and more energy. This would not only improve your digestive process, having less eating disorders, but would help you feel better and use less energy in the process.

It seems that nowadays, it is more common to know someone who has digestion eating disorders of some kind. It could be in the form of flatulence...

  • burping
  • constipation
  • stomach bloating
  • Do you suffer from any of these problems?

When we consume Carbohydrates (Vegetables), Proteins (Meats) and Fruits, each of them takes a certain amount of time to be digested. Each different food type also requires different digestive enzymes secreted in order to help digestion. This new way of eating also helps your body get rid of toxins more quickly. Does this sound like something you would like to achieve?

When you start combining your foods properly this promotes better digestion and also your pH balance is healthier.

    Digestion Times

Proteins generally take about 8 hours

      Fruits only take 30 minutes

      Vegetables 3 – 4 hours

You can see from these times, that if you combine meat and fruit, the fruit will go undigested as the enzymes are busy doing their work with the meat. This process would slow you down, make you feel sluggish and fermentation would take place.

The Principles of a Food Combining Diet

It is easier for your body to digest carbohydrates and proteins when you eat them at separate meal times.

Do not combine carbohydrates and proteins at the same meal. For example, if you are having rice or potatoes, you do not combine it with meat or fish. Eating vegetables would be a healthier alternative.

When eating a protein, it is best to eat a fresh green salad with it. Nuts and seeds are generally eaten with fruits, such as oranges, pineapples and strawberries. Peaches, mangoes and apples work well too.

Bacon and eggs(protein) cannot be eaten with a piece of toast(carbohydrates). A better choice would be slices of tomatoes. You could even bake the tomato.

Fruit should be eaten at a separate time.

    Proteins could be...

Cooked, roasted, smoked, grilled meats. To list just a few of these meats...

    • lamb
    • chicken
    • turkey
    • pork
    • bison
    • duck

A strict rule to listen to, is do not eat two types of animal protein at the same time. Each type of protein requires a different digestive juice to help with digestion.

    Vegetables (Carbohydrates-Starchy)

    • potatoes
    • yams
    • taro
    • beets

(these vegetables usually taste more sweet than others)

(Carbohydrates – non starchy) this list is quite lengthy, so here I will name only a few of them...

    • Arugula
    • Asparagus
    • Bok Choy
    • Broccoli
    • Brussels Sprouts
    • Cabbage
    • Celery
    • Spinach
    • Chard
    • Mustard Greens
    • Dandelion Greens
    • Onions
    • Peas
    • Sprouts
    • Tomatoes
    • Turnips

Are You Tired after a Night's Sleep

Do you wake up tired after getting a good six to eight hours of sleep. Perhaps food combining could help you wake up feeling more refreshed.

During your sleeping hours, your digestive system is busy working. Your body does it’s healing and repair time then too. No rest for this body system of ours, it works 24 hours a day! A good night’s rest is very important.

If you have combined your food poorly during the course of the day, or eaten a heavy protein meal just before bedtime, it’s no wonder you wake up feeling tired.

Some people eat a spoonful of peanut butter before bedtime... somehow this doesn't sit well with me. The stomach produces certain enzymes in order to digest food. These enzymes break down food and help your body get nutrients. Acidic and alkaline conditions occur and the enzymes go to work. If you are eating both fruit and meat together, the enzymes required will neutralize each and your meal goes undigested.

A Food Combining Diet for Weight Loss

Some friends of mine, started proper food combining for 6 days of every week. On the 7th day, they ate their old way. They did lose weight as the body stores less fat. They also noticed the difference in how they had more energy during the week.
