Endocrine System

The endocrine system is directly affected by Candida.

This delicately balanced glandular system consists of the following organs...

  • Pineal Gland
  • Hypothalamus
  • Thyroid
  • Parathyroid
  • Liver
  • Pancreas
  • Adrenal Glands
  • Ovaries and Testes
  • Thymus Gland
  • Pituitary Gland
Function of the Endocrine System

The Pituitary Gland is referred to as the “Master Gland”. This Gland produces at least six hormones and some of the major body functions are regulated by these hormones. These include tissue repair, growth and the reproductive cycle. This gland regulates the functions of the rest of the glandular system.

The Thyroid and the Parathyroid... the thyroid is located at the base of the throat and the parathyroids are directly behind the thyroid. The thyroid regulates the metabolism of the speed at which we burn up fuel.

The parathyroids regulates calcium and phosphorus in the body. Phosphorus requires calcium in proper ratio in order to work. They are very important in bone and teeth development.

The Adrenal Glands are the ‘fight and flight’ response organs. They are located on top of each kidney. Adrenals alert the entire body to prepare for action. It makes the heart race, the liver release stored sugar, the blood pressure go up, the breathing rate, the intestines shut down and the muscles tense up. This happens through the adrenal gland releasing a powerful hormone called adrenaline.

The adrenals also produce about 50 different hormones and hormone like substances. The adrenals are involved in the immune system and in the reproductive system.

The Reproductive Glands

The energy from these glands makes us want to ‘get up and go’, These glands also rule our sexuality and our creative drive.

The Liver and Pancreas

The Pancreas is an important gland. It is part of both the digestive system and the glandular system. It makes digestive enzymes and produces insulin.

When the pancreas does not produce these enzymes as it should, to help our digestive system along, we experience ‘wind’ from our digestive tract.

The Liver is actually not a part of the glandular system, but is so closely involved, I thought I would mention it. It helps to balance hormones, convert carbs, fats and proteins for energy or storage, stores vital nutrients and filter toxins from the blood.

It’s no wonder in TCM, the liver is so closely watched. The liver helps protect the endocrine system. Stress and poor nutrition can overcome the liver easily.

Candida overgrowth can affect all organs in the body, including this delicately balanced system.
