Dehydration
Dehydration is not something we think of in this modern world of ours! Actually, there is absolutely no reason for you to be dehydrated. Water is cheap! Water is almost free! An interesting fact, that I recently heard on TV is that bottled water is 1,000 to 2,000 times more expensive than tap water. Water is extremely good for you.
Your body tells you when it is thirsty. Do you recognize the signs? Your throat, eyes and nose feel dry and sometimes scratchy. You are tempted to use eye drops, or nasal sprays. Try H20 Instead! I continue to hear people say ‘I don’t like the taste of water’. ‘Water is boring’. If this is something you experience, try squeezing some lemon in it. A friend of mine uses fresh mint leaves from her garden. I usually put Liquid Chlorophyl in mine. You can always put a few slices of lemon in your water too.
Distilled Water
Distilled water is water that has many of its impurities removed. The process involves boiling the water and then condensing the resulting steam into a new and clean container. Distilled water is also commonly used in industrial application, such as boilers, car batteries as well as health applications, etc. Health Applications The drinking of distilled water has been both advocated and discouraged for health reasons. Drinking water sources available to North Americans may contain high levels of Ca2+, Mg2+, and Na+ and may provide clinically important portions of the recommended dietary intake of these minerals. Lack of water has a negative effect on the brain function and your energy levels. Physicians should encourage patients to check the mineral content of their drinking water, whether tap or bottled, and choose water most appropriate for their needs.
There seems to be a lot of questions as to which water should you drink. The cities say that there tap water is the best. Others say to drink distilled, some say spring water. Then there is reverse osmosis water. There are benefits from all of the above.
Alkaline Water
Water is the most crucial factor in establishing and maintaining proper acid-alkaline balance. Your body is between 55% to 78% water and is it very important to maintain this balance. The quality of the water that you drink is just as important as the quantity of water you drink. Water prevents toxins and chemical substances from accumulating in the body cells. Water transports minerals and nutrients throughout the cells. Ideally, the water you drink should have a ph between 9 and 10, and you should be drinking 3-4 liters of it daily. Everyone’s body is different and especially the elderly, I doubt very much if they could drink 3 – 4 litres per day. Dehydration is something that the elderly must be aware of. In order to hydrate your body optimally, you need to drink water that is alkaline and ionized. Alkaline water helps to neutralize stored acids and toxins. Once these acids are neutralized, they can then be removed by the body. It replenishes essential minerals and protects the cells. Your body flushes out wastes by drinking water. What goes ‘in’, must come ‘out’.

Your body will tell you when it’s thirsty. One sign can be your throat and eyes being very dry and scratchy. Depending upon the day ... whether it’s very hot, exceptionally dry, or you are exercising or some vigorous form of work, your body will require more water than normal. Again, listen to your body and you should be able to remain well hydrated.A healthy person urinates on average about seven or eight times a day. Urine Test The colour of your urine can also help you determine whether you are getting enough water. There are some supplements such as Vitamin B, that will colour your urine very bright yellow. Time to drink more water! Also eating beets will colour your urine pink or red. On the other side, if your urine is very pale, you may have had too much water. A light pale colour is a healthy colour. You might be fooling yourself by drinking coffee, tea or soda which are high in caffeine and considering this to be water. Caffeine acts as a diuretic. You will experience dehydration if you don't drink water as well. If you are running marathons or doing heavy gym workouts, then a source of electrolytes might be a healthier choice at the time, but water is still very important to prevent dehydration.
Being able to carry water with you is very important, especially on hot/humid days, like we have in Toronto during our summers. You do not want to become dehydrated.
