Candida Skin Infections

Candida Skin infections can be on all areas of the skin.  This fungal infection is generally found in skin folds.

Some of the areas of the body affected are under women's breasts, in the groin area, around the mouth, near the armpit, on the genitals and around the anal orifice.

Remember the body normally hosts a variety of germs.  These can include fungi and bacteria.

Candida Onychomycosis

Candida onychomycosis is an infection of the nail plate (toe nail, finger nail) by the  fungus caused by Candida.  The nail bed is composed of keratin and is very hard. Onychomycosis may affect one or more toenails. The big toe nail or the little toe nail are most often infected with

Candida Parapsilosis

Candida parapsilosis has increased over the past decade.  It is a fungal species of the yeast family.
Candida parapsilosis is one of the fungi most frequently isolated from the human hands.

Immuno-compromised individuals and surgical patients are at high risk.
Those patients having gastrointestinal tract surgery are at high risk of this particular candida.

Symptoms of Yeast Overgrowth and Candida Skin Infections

  • A reddish/purple patch on the skin
  • The area is quite itchy
  • The skin can be scaling
  • Blisters or spots near and around the itchy patches
  • Soreness and skin splitting at the corner of the mouth (angular cheilitis)
  • A white and splitting toe nail
  • Infection under the fingernails or toenails
  • Can look like eczema

Who Can Get A Candida Rash

  • A person who is very overweight will attract a candida rash because of the heat/dampness generated in the folds of the skin.
  • Someone with a weakened immune system is most susceptible to a candida skin infection.
  • Anyone taking high doses of antibiotics can get a candida yeast infection.
  • Contraceptive pills changes the blood sugar levels in the body - candida loves sugar!
  • A woman who is pregnant.
  • A baby with a diaper rash.
  • Anyone who works in wet or damp conditions.
  • Mucocutaneous candidiasis, meaning fungal infections affecting the entire body.

Taking antibiotics will kill the healthy bacteria in the gut as well as the unhealthy bacteria.  If there is another option to antibiotics you would be making a better choice.

The birth control pill or oral contraceptives can cause a hormonal imbalance in the female body.  When this happens, the increased estrogen levels also increases blood sugar levels and can cause candida.  This increases sugar levels feeds a candida yeast overgrowth.

Remember Candida loves sugar!
