CANDIDA Problem Foods

Foods to be Avoided

This is a list of Candida problem foods when you are on a candida diet.

This list is quite lengthy and, of course, it consists of a lot of the foods that we love to indulge in.

You know those problem foods that I’m talking about. Those foods that help us deal with a ‘grumpy’ day, or somebody else who is having a ‘grumpy’ day!

Also, a person suffering from candidiasis craves some of these foods, because the yeast needs that particular food in order to thrive in the body.

These are some of the candida problem foods.

    Sugar

    Alcohol

    Yeast

    Gluten

    Condiments

Sugar: Sugar is the most important thing to be removed from your diet.

Sugar feeds candida and the production of yeast in the body. There are many forms of sugar, such as, brown sugar, date sugar, maple sugar, honey, white sugar, maple syrup, rice syrup, corn syrup and fruit sugar.

Fruit should be eliminated from your diet for the first month or so. Fruit juices, dried fruit, canned fruit, frozen fruit will also help grow more yeast. These should be avoided as well.

Fructose, sucrose, glucose, lactose are on the list of problem foods to be avoided.

Alcohol: Alcohol contains a high level of sugar.

Beer: Beer contains yeast.

Caffeine: Caffeine should be listed as a problem food, not only because is helps the growth of fungus and yeast, but it is a real problem giving it up, as that first 'cuppa' in the morning.

Chocolate: Chocolate could be the next hardest food or treat to give up. Chocolate usually is a craving that the yeast or fungus needs to keep going.

Gluten and Yeast: Baked goods, such as breads, muffins, crackers, and pastries are the problem foods here.

There are some gluten free products available in your neighbourhood health store and also in some supermarkets.

Quinoa is an excellent gluten free grain and tasty too.

Nuts: Peanuts, pistachios, walnuts have a mold in them, which can cause the growth of the fungus.

Be sure to avoid peanuts because of their high fungal content. Also, avoid rancid nuts and seeds. If you get that rancid taste, an odd bitter sting at the back of the throat, get rid of the batch of nuts.

Sesame and flax seeds are almost always okay.

Soak nuts and seeds to activate their enzymes. This will eliminate enzyme inhibitors and partially digest the protein making their nutritional and hydrating potential more readily available to your body.

Condiments: Most condiments contain sugar, salt or both. They frequently contain fermented or acidifying ingredients.

What would be your favourite alternatives to ketchup, mustard, vinegar, mayonnaise, barbecue sauce and soy sauce?

You might try healthy oils, lemons, limes, garlic, onion, ginger and other spices.

Lemon and lime add freshness and zest and because of the low sugar content are alkalizing as well.

Garlic, onion and ginger are all naturally antifungal and antiparasitic.

Proteins: Some beef, chicken and pork have antibiotics and hormones added. If you like to eat animal protein, then free-range, certified organic products are available. Many smoked meats have added sugar and should be avoided as well.

Besides the list of Candida problem foods, there is a contrasting list of Foods that Candida sufferers should eat.
