Bowel Disorders and Our Health

If we lived correctly bowel disorders would have no concern to us. I know this sentence with the word ‘if’ in it implies we do not eat properly,  but I had to say it. This is true!

Fixing the gut can help all chronic health problems.

The information that I write here will hopefully raise your consciousness about caring for this precious elimination organ.

  • we have developed bad habits.
  • we do not eat the right foods
  • we get very little exercise
  • we don’t drink enough water and
  • we don’t get enough fresh air and sunshine

How can we really expect the bowel to function properly?

There are Many Bowel Disorders

Many bowel disorders develop over a period of many years. Here are some of the most common.

Nowadays, there are a lot of people being diagnosed with Leaky Gut Syndrome. This is when the toxins, cholesterol and fats are leaked from the bowel into the bloodstream.

Frequently, an over the counter medication is taken to get rid of gas, bloating or a stomach ache.

Did this resolve the problem? No! This is a temporary fix!

It is better to educate yourself about bowel disorders than medicate.

A healthy bowel is an indicator as to how healthy you are!

Other Elimination Organs

The entire cleansing process along with the bowel are through the skin, kidneys, lymphatic and lungs, the bowel must come first. The liver also needs to be in good working order.

The Liver:

The liver is our largest internal organ weighing almost three pounds.

  • it performs over 500 chemical functions
  • it is the first organ to receive nutrients that have been ingested
  • it receives toxic substances from the intestine that have entered the body
  • it also receives carcinogens that have been ingested
  • it receives any drugs that have been ingested

Today's modern and poor diet abuses our liver tremendously. We really need to take better care of it.

The Skin:

The skin is the largest elimination organ of the body. By taking care of the skin, by skin brushing, which is a way of removing dead skin cells and the waste material excreted through perspiring, this will help relieve the other elimination organs.

The Kidneys:

Drink plenty of clean, pure water which will aid the kidneys. Watermelon juice is excellent for helping the kidneys do their elimination job.

The Lymphatic System:

The lymph picks up intracellular waste and dumps it into the bloodstream, where it is processed by the liver and filtered by the kidneys. It is important to exercise in order to assist the lymph to do it’s job.

The Lungs:

Some of the toxic waste material generated in the body is passed out of the system as a gas through the lungs. Carbon dioxide is exchanged for oxygen during the process of breathing. Once again exercise comes into play here.

Common Bowel Disorders

It is important to speed up the bowel transit time.

  • by cleansing the bowel,
  • by consuming more high-fiber fruits
  • by consuming high fiber vegetables
  • by eating legumes
  • by eating whole cereal grains

Did you know the bowel responds to good food within twelve to fifteen hours?

The bowel has very few pain sensors, very few nerves that carry sensory information to the brain to be interpreted as pain. By the time a bowel problem is serious enough to cause pain, you can safely bet there is a big problem.

We need to avoid chronic bowel disorders. Unattended long enough, such chronic problems may require surgical intervention.

Eating more super foods would help with any bowel disorders.

I could write pages and pages about this precious organ and how much care it really needs.

Several bowel movements per day are absolutely essential.

How many bowel movements do you have?

Let’s operate on the problem, not the person!

Your bowel health is so important!

Bodily Waste Elimination

Constipation is a major problem and the average person doesn't know whether he or she is constipated.

Signs of a sluggish or stagnant colon

  • diarrhea
  • mucous shreds in stools
  • painful, hard bowel movements
  • alternating constipation and diarrhea
  • hemorrhoids or rectal fissure

Are you constipated and not aware of it?

Chronic diarrhea, colitis and spastic colon could be caused by food sensitivities or food allergies.

Do you check your bowel movements every day? Embarrassing question? Most people never think of it.

A lot of doctors never think to ask how your bowels are moving either.

For your information - a sinking stool lacks water and fiber, and a thin pencil like bowel movement is a sign of a stagnant bowel.

Time to look at your food intake - make some changes. Perhaps a Candida Diet or a Food Combining Diet.

One of the common bowel disorders that is ignored is Intestinal Toxemia. This can manifest as one or more of the following.

  • Bloating Stomach
  • Fatigue
  • Nervousness
  • Gastrointestinal conditions
  • Poor absorption of nutrients
  • Skin manifestations
  • Endocrine disturbances
  • Headaches
  • Arthritis
  • Low-back pain
  • Sciatica (inflammation of the sciatic nerve in the hip)
  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Eye, ear, nose and throat diseases
  • Cardiac irregularities
  • Pathological changes in the breasts

Waste Elimination

What is healthy elimination considered to be? A healthy stool, should be soft, loosely formed and easy to pass. No straining! No sitting for hours!

Colour – it should be lightly coloured, unless you have been eating beets or drinking liquid chlorophyll, which would be seen in the colour of the stool.

Consistency – this may be foreign to some of you, but the stool should come out in long pieces (6 – 8 inches long) and about as thick as two fingers. If your stool passes in thick logs or hard round balls, you have problems!

Odour – Your bowel movement should not smell! If it does, you’ve got a toxic condition in your bowel. This is not good!

Elimination of your bowel should generally be two to three times per day, depending upon how many substantial meals you eat per day.

Bowel Transit Time is another common bowel disorder that is ignored. It should be 16 – 18 hours and always less than 24 hours. This means that it should take that amount of time for any meal to be completely processed and eliminated. When your bowels are moving regularly and properly, you will have more energy, less pain and stiffness and feel better overall.

Do a test – eat some beets, see how long it takes for the red colour to pass through.

  1. The Bowel needs water and fibre.
  2. Your bowel needs water first.
  3. Fiber is the next most important thing the colon needs for detoxification.
  4. Enzymes are important to help break down the food and absorption of nutrients.
  5. Cleansing the bowel should be done regularly.
  6. Herbal Laxative if necessary to keep you regularly
  7. It is so important to drink enough water.

The bowel needs soft fiber that absorbs water. Water soluble fibrers perform several important roles for maintaining colon health. If you drink enough water, the soluble fibers help to bulk the stool and keep it soft, so the stool is easy to pass.

Fiber has been shown to help promote health throughout the entire body.

Fiber slows the absorption of fats and sugars into the bloodstream. It also reduces appetite, because it swells with water and fills the stomach, so that you have a full feeling.

This smooth type fiber absorbs toxins and keeps them from irritating the mucous membranes of the intestinal tract.

That is why soluble fibers are so important in combating inflammatory bowel disorders.

Digestive Enzymes are truly necessary. As we get older our bodies produce less enzymes and supplementation becomes necessary. If you can’t digest food properly and you experience dyspepsia (indigestion), your body is not obtaining the proper nourishment.

Even children experience digestion problems and bowel disorders which can result in food allergies. There are chewable enzymes available for children to make it easy for them.

There are several herbal combinations available for cleansing the bowel.

A herbal laxative may be necessary, but they don’t really ‘clean’.

Fiber, water and enzymes do that. Using any laxative, herbal or other, you can become dependent upon them.

There are other herbal supplements that are ‘pusher’ formulas. They will help the bowel to improve the transit time. A person who has an efficient, regular cleansing action of a well-cared-for bowel does not suffer from sickness and disease. They are full of vitality and good health.

Parasites love the bowel. This dark place with lots of stagnating food that they can feed on. Intestinal parasites in humans is very common.

Dr. Bernard Jensen

I remember the very first three day seminar I attended with Dr. Bernard Jensen as our teacher. I am sure many of my colleagues who attended this seminar remember this well. It has stuck with me and I have shared this with many of my clients as well.

The topic was to be Iridology and Nutrition.

The bowel shows in the eyes! So that topic had to come up.

The first morning, Dr. Jensen said ‘good morning' to us and we all yelled back with enthusiasm ‘GOOD MORNING’!

The second morning, Dr. Jensen greeted us again with ‘good morning’, we all said back with semi-enthusiasm ‘good morning’.

The third morning, Dr. Jensen again greeted us with his morning salutation of ‘good morning’. It seemed like we all made a disconcerted effort to say ‘good morning’ back.

He then said to us all, ‘so you all are suffering from constipation problems this morning’ or something to that effect.

We tried for enthusiasm, but after three days of sitting, very little exercise if any, not enough proper food and water, most of us were suffering from constipation and feeling very sluggish.

A general discomfort and dyspepsia develops.

The bowel must be considered first in the disease reversal process according to Hering’s Law of Cure.

Hering’s Law of Cure states that “all cure starts from within out, from the head down and in the reverse order as the symptoms appeared.”

Hering’s Law of Cure was formulated by the nineteenth-century European homeopathic physician Constantine Hering.

Remember, proper foods with fiber, lots of good water and sufficient exercise is an excellent way to start!
